Travel Miami’s MetroMover It’s a fun way to travel around downtown Miami on any of its three commuter tracks – the Brickell, Omni and Inner Loops – and there are no tickets, it’s completely free! This automated people-mover uses ultra-modern, computer-controlled Bombardier Innovia vehicles, with their aerodynamic, space-aged design…running on rubber tires on elevated tracks. While standing on the station platform, it’s interesting to watch your approaching car in the distance as it snakes through various office buildings on its way towards you. A digital display keeps you apprised of the seconds before it arrives. Standards are every 90 seconds in rush hour and every three minutes between “rushes.” The Loops takes you through downtown, past the financial district, Bayfront Parkand through the new $1.05-billion shopping centre, Brickell City Centre – with its worldclass shopping and restaurants. If you get off at theMetroMover’sGovernment Centerstation, you can connect with the new Brightlinehigh-speed trains which will take to you north toWest PalmBeach, and eventually to Orlando (see page 29).
