RV Lifestyle Spring is upon us and, with it, warmweather, outdoor events and evenmore reasons to get out of town. The world’s mood seems to collectively improve around May, as the weather gets – and stays – warm enough for shorts and a T-shirt. Thankfully, there are plenty of places to soak up the sun. During May, it’s still possible to find respite from the crowds – or make your way into the middle of the action. Crowd-pleasing destinations such as Galveston and Sedona are a sure bet. If you prefer to be in the middle of the action, head to places like Louisville, which hosts the Kentucky Derby (May 11, in 2018), a bucket list event worth braving the crowds for. Taking place since 1875 at the legendary Churchill Downs racetrack in Louisville, the Kentucky Derby is the crown jewel of American horse racing. Bursting with tradition from the ladies’ hats to the flowing mint juleps, make sure that you don’t get too caught up and forget to place a bet on the winning horse. The “Run for the Roses” is the sport’s enthusiast’s experience of a lifetime. Advertised as the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing,” the Indianapolis 500 automobile race is held every year on Memorial Day weekend (May 27, 2018). Held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway since its inception in 1911, drivers race 200 laps for a distance of 500 miles (804 km). June is one of the best months of the year to take a holiday. The scorching heat of July and August has yet to arrive. There’s much to celebrate this month. As such, destinations kick into high gear as crowds young and old seek out the best places to spend their long-awaited summer vacation. Whether you’re seeking the sun – and the crowds – or looking to escape them, these are the places to go, to ring in the season. Ready to take advantage of the mild weather before the crazy summer crowds and temperatures descend? These are the places to go now. The Best Places to Travel IN SPRING San Antonio, Texas Arguably the state’s most beautiful city, San Antonio has much to offer. Fantastic museums, San Antonio River Walk, La Villita, HemisFair Park, Tower of the Americas, El Mercado, King William Historic District and, of course, The Alamo are but a few of its highlights. And if you like the Alamo, you’ll love the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, a string of several 15th- and 16th-century Spanish missions in and around the city. Fiesta San Antonio (April 19-29, in 2018) started in 1891 as a one-parade event to honour the memory of the heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto. It has grown into a celebration of San Antonio’s rich and diverse cultures. 24 | www.snowbirds.org
