RV Lifestyle Charleston, South Carolina If you’re a history buff, you’ll love Charleston. Avid tourist? Charleston is the city for you. Lover of good food and charming scenery? Charleston has your number. Nestled along a narrow peninsula – where the Ashley and Cooper rivers meet and empty into the Atlantic Ocean – it exudes Deep South charm. With very few tall buildings, Charleston instead offers quaint cobblestone roads, colonial structures, a unique culture and gobs of history. Just outside of town, you can visit a number of Southern plantations, including Boone Hall and Drayton Hall. Okanagan Valley, British Columbia With rolling hills dotted with sagebrush and ponderosa pine – and thousands of acres of vineyards – the Okanagan Valley can no longer be considered a nascent Napa. Lying between two mountain ranges and stretching for roughly 200 kilometres north from the U.S.-Canada border, the geography varies from the desert-like conditions in the south to the green plateau of the Naramata Bench and Okanagan Lake’s sandy beaches. California Gold Country The roots of old Zinfandel grapevines run deep in the Gold Country, with winemaking here dating back to the Gold Rush days of the 1850s. Now, an explosion of wineries, wine tours, tasting rooms and restaurants specializing in wine country cuisine has added a jolt of grape-fuelled energy to the Sierra foothills, where more than 100 wineries now produce a wide range of varietals, most notably Zinfandel, but also an intriguing selection of other varietals. Santa Fe, New Mexico It doesn’t get more American Southwest than Santa Fe, awash in clay-coloured adobe homes, and boutiques selling pottery and art. The sweet spot to visit is between September and November, when the temperatures are comfortable, chili harvest season gets underway and the festival circuit is at an all-time high. October packs a double whammy: the Santa Fe Independent FilmFestival and, a quick drive south, thousands of RVers converge on Albuquerque for the International Balloon Fiesta – the largest of its kind.
