LAKELAND GALLERY Mural art in Lakeland is becoming innovative. Well-known local artist David Collins has formedTapestries Lakeland, a group of 30 artists who paint removable murals on weatherproof cotton canvas, sealed and primed with acrylic. “Laughing Horses” and “Legged Unicorn Duck” are examples of these and can be found at 120 S. Florida Ave. “Untitled”by TimHaas (901 S. Florida Ave.), painted to look like a hole torn in the wall, is an imaginative underwater moonscape with whales, a swirling nebula and a futuristic airship gliding by. Two children with their pet dog study the scene. Without a doubt, this is one of my favourite Florida murals. “Untitled”by Gabriela Jaxon (235 N. Florida Ave.); a woman with four eyes adorns the two-storey antique warehouse building. A complete juxtaposition to the urban surroundings of downtown Lakeland. 30 | www.snowbirds.org
