RV Lifestyle White Sands National Park in New Mexico Rising from the heart of the Tularosa Basin is one of the world’s great natural wonders − the glistening white sands of New Mexico. Great wave-like dunes of gypsum sand have engulfed 71,225 hectares of desert, creating the world’s largest gypsum dunefield. White Sands National Park preserves a major portion of this unique dunefield, along with the plants and animals that live here. Lockhart in Texas If you’re headed to Lockhart, a.k.a. the barbecue capital of Texas, make sure to arrive hungry. A few pointers: The Original Black’s Barbecue is known for its dinosaur beef ribs (just one rib weighs a pound-and-a-half), while the quality cuts at Kreuz Market are meant to be eaten sans sauce. Finally, swing by Smitty’s Market for its brisket and scoops of Blue Bell ice cream. Nearby Lockhart State Park is a convenient home base, where you can strategize each evening. Savannah in Georgia The oldest city in Georgia, Savannah is a city whose rich history is evident everywhere you look. It’s also evident everywhere you step: The city is still laid out around 22 tree-filled squares according to a plan developed by James Oglethorpe, who founded the city on a bluff overlooking the Savannah River in 1733. All of those squares − and the city’s relatively modest size − mean that it is easily walkable and many of the best things to do in Savannah involve sites that are within easy strolling distance of one another. Bottom line Travelling snowbirds have hundreds − if not thousands − of amazing places to visit across the U.S. This list is far from exhaustive, but it encompasses eight well-loved popular destinations that could keep us busy for years to come.
