CSA Online Geocaching iOS | Android Free/subscription geocaching.com Geocaching the name, predates Geocaching the registered trademark, which predates Geocaching the app by Geocaching the registered trademark. Got it? With foresight enough to scoop up the name, you might expect the Geocaching app to be among the best. You wouldn’t be disappointed. While many useful features − including offline maps and advanced search − are locked behind a subscription paywall (US$3.33/mo. or US$29.99/yr.), there’s still plenty that you can do without paying a dime. Geocaching apps Cachly iOS US$4.99 cach.ly Many geocaching apps are free. This one is not. On the one hand, you have to pay up front. On the other, paying unlocks a bunch of features for which other apps want to charge an ongoing subscription. Features such as offline maps (handy if geocaching in a remote area) and advanced search capabilities. While it’s iOS only, leaving Android users out, focusing on one platform does have its benefits. For example, if you have an AppleWatch, Cachly can sync to it so that you can follow directions on your watch as opposed to having to constantly pull out your phone. c:geo Android Free www.cgeo.org Doing away with subscription come-ons entirely, c:geo is a passion project built on the open-source concept (i.e. not for profit). It’s clearly made by a group of developers who love geocaching and who know what they want to see in a geocaching app. It’s free and will remain that way. There is the option to donate on the cgeo.org website. I personally try to actively support open-source projects which I find valuable. You may consider doing the same. It’s a little tough to get the hang of but, once you’ve gotten used to the interface, it’s a powerful geocaching app. If you’re an Android user, this is definitely the first one to try to see if geocaching might be for you.
