CSA Online ArriveCAN Android | iOS canada.ca/arrivecan ArriveCAN is available as a web application that works on a computer, smartphone or tablet web browser. The ArriveCAN app is also available for Android and iPhone. With ArriveCAN, you can complete the fairly onerous COVID-19 pre-screening up to 72h in advance of the time at which you cross the border into Canada. How to use the ArriveCAN app First things first − you’ll need to create an account with an e-mail address and password. Your passwordmust contain letters, numbers and at least one “special character,” (! $ # [ ] { } * etc.). Upon registration, you’ll be sent a six-digit code to the e-mail address that you specified. Check your spam folder. That’s where mine ended up using Gmail. You’ll need this code to verify your account. You’ll answer a series of questions starting with the reason for travel: returning to Canada, family reunification, study, discretionary travel by a fully vaccinated U.S. citizen and so on. Next, you’ll be asked to register your travel document. This can be a passport, NEXUS card, PR card, enhanced driver’s licence, Certificate of Indian Status and so on. Depending on the option which you choose, you’ll be prompted to enter information manually or you’ll have the option to take a picture, which will automatically populate the needed information. You’ll be asked some questions about your vaccination status, including date and brand of vaccines received. You can upload your vaccination receipts in the app. If you have a paper copy, you can take a picture and include it with your application. If you need to find a digital copy, search your e-mail for “Dose Administration Receipt,” save the receipts as PDF and upload with your application. Next is pretty standard travel stuff; selecting whether you’re arriving by land, sea or air and providing the relevant carriage information. One family member can complete the process for all travellers in a group. Once completed, you’ll get aQR code and confirmation number that Border Patrol can use to pull up all of the information which you’ve provided. Note that if quarantine is deemed necessary, all people travelling under a single ArriveCAN submission will quarantine together by default, so plan accordingly. Set aside a good 15 minutes per traveller to pull together all of the information and documentation required and answer all of the questions. The process isn’t as heavy as trying to file taxes but, honestly, it’s a lot. Still, better to do it in the comfort of your home than at the border. Safe travels!
